The Albatross
Albatross's bones are hollow making them lighter to help them fly. Air inside the bones gave warning of approaching storms.
They can smell fish from huge distances like us being able to smell fish in Perth, Australia.
Their wing muscles were only 6% of their body where as sparrows are 20%. They rely on wind to help them fly.
By taking their temperature on their legs we know that they sit in the water at night and fly in the day. Sharks are asleep at night and squid and krill come up to the surface to feed at night.
They don't fly very high so they can get the wind currents.
By September a chick weighs as much as it's parents.
A blowfly is the worst predator for an albatross egg.
The parents catch food and vomit it back for the young chick.
Albatross mate for life. They take 2-4 years to choose their partner.
The chick is ready to fly at nine months.
The Dad sits on the egg for 6 days and will not move or eat.
When first born cats and stoats try to eat it.
When the chick flies it will not touch land for 4 years.
They only lay an egg once every 2 years.

The Awesome Dino Show
We saw a baby T-Rex at the show. At first it looked real because it had real sharp teeth. Some children enjoyed it but others were scared. He told us it was a 1 year old T-Rex. His Mum would be 7 times bigger. He had more dinosaurs but they didn't bring them. He brought that one because it was the scariest.
The man inside knew where to go because he had a camera and TV screen inside.

Hiwi The Kiwi Show
Today the Minstrel played lots of songs for us.
He cracked us up when someone came up to the front. He called them Booboo and the girls Sweety Pie. He did a really good job
when Campbell came up. He made rhyming words with their names and he added a lot of hunour.
He talked to us about big, medium and small fish. He told us to always bring a ruler to measure the fish. You cannot take big or small fish but you can take medium fish because it is the right size. You can not take the big fish because they might be having babies and small because they need to grow.
You also need flares when you’re in danger. You take off the lid and a big yellow ball and it goes high in the sky.
Now for my fishing story…
Two years ago I went fishing with grandad Jon and my family. We went on Grandad Jon’s boat- his boat is huge. I looked at the water and there were heaps of fish. I got a turn with the fishing rod and I caught a fish. I gave it to Grandad Jon. He checked if it was the right size and it was. We caught ten fish.
When we had finished we went back to Dunedin. We cooked them. They were delicious.

Ways We Work At School
We learnt the ways we work at school are competitive, individual and co-operative.
Competitive has many losers. Individual can be hard. When we were co-operating we had work together. This can be hard too.

Web Of Life
We made a web of life by connecting animals, insects, natural features like rainwater and man made features like concrete, as well as people. It showed how things can be connected. It made a pattern from the wool that joined things together.
The sun could have connected to all the things. The web of life could have been made in many different ways.
